Circumstances and barriers for students vary widely across communities. Our local approach allows us to identify the unique needs in our community and leverage resources to make a difference in the lives of our young people.

Across our community, the identified priority local needs and risk factors vary for each school, family, and individual student. To address these needs, our school-based site coordinators have implemented the following supports:

Our Services in Schools

School-based site coordinators empower students to stay in school through individualized access to needed resources, and ongoing encouragement and guidance to build confidence to reach their potential and achieve their dreams.

Ready, Set, Read-Tacoma! is an early childhood literacy program designed to help prepare children for kindergarten in Tacoma Public Schools.
With the help of our service partners, ASR is a reading tutoring program for struggling readers in elementary school.
Communities In Schools provides students at each school site with 3 tiers of support. The level of services provided to students is based on the Early Warning Indicators to support students.
This event supports families who are experiencing housing insecurity during the holidays, providing them with warm coats, blankets, pajamas and holiday meals.
The CIS H.I.R.E. program allows high school students the opportunity to gain exposure to career fields and provides them with skills to help build their portfolios. Through this experience, young people gain knowledge and confidence in their abilities and they learn about the many hats workers wear on the job.
