This month at Baker, Ms. Olivia (CSF) Derek Hall (music teacher) and Jenna Aynes (CIS Site-Coordinator) have started Project RISE. This is a talent show partnered with community service. Rebuilding our community, Inspiring others, Serving humanity, and Expressing ourselves. Through this, students are given the opportunity to work with peers, staff, and their community. This experience will include more application vs. allocation. Students will participate in 6 community service projects, 3 on campus, and 3 out in the Tacoma area. In addition to community service students will learn about networking, positive us of social media, PR, importance of community involvement, teamwork, and the discipline of the arts. All of this will conclude with the talent show and R.I.S.E. Festival on June 11th, 2014.
This month, we had talent show auditions with over 50 students. We narrowed it down to about 25 total that were able to participate in the talent show, but all students at Baker and in the community are able to take part in the service portion of this project.
Certificates and letters of support will be provided for all students that serve from now until June. This already has been a popular project and we look forward to the rest of the year and the positive impact this will have on staff, students, and parents.
