On June 1, 2016, we hosted nearly 300 guests for lunch at Hotel Murano. The theme this year was, “Make every step count.”

Paechance, a student at Mount Tahoma high school, opened the luncheon with vocals to the National Anthem. Scott Heinze, A Tacoma Public Schools board member, emceed the event and welcomed guests from all around the state. Derek Kilmer presented our hands up awards to individuals and organizations who have deeply impacted our students this year. T’wina Franklin, co-found of Ladies’ First and board member for University Place School District, shared her story as our keynote speak. We had a surprise appearance by our Communities In Schools founder, Bill Milliken, who joined the event via Skype and shared the origin and accomplishments of Communities In Schools across the nation.

This year, thanks to generous sponsors and donors, Communities In Schools (CIS) of Tacoma was able to raise funds to help provide services for over 4,000 students.
