We are ecstatic to announce that the Communities In Schools of Tacoma’s Winter Wish Program was a resounding success this year! With the support of local businesses and individual community members, there were 108 individuals and families that had their lives touched by this program.
The Winter Wish Program provides a unique opportunity for students to identify someone in their lives that is struggling and in need of help. Through our network of dedicated volunteers and supporters we help make these wishes come true.
This year, we believe we have succeeded in bringing joy and the spirit of hope to many across our community. There were so many people that opened their hearts granting wishes for others in their community.
At Baker Middle School alone there were a total of 15 students who’s wishes were granted. We were ecstatic when several members of the community were able to adopt a student to make these wishes happen! The wishes here ranged from new shoes for a student’s that had holes in them to a warm jacket for a father that works across town.
Whether its food for the table or a comforting toy, when the donations are delivered, they can be met with emotion and gratitude. Here are some of the comments we received from a couple of our Wish List recipients:
“I didn’t realize that others cared about me”
“Thanks for noticing that I needed help, my children will now have a Christmas”
“I can’t believe that someone thought of me this season”
“Thanks for the teddy bear and flowers for my friend in the hospital”
“Thanks for the gift card; it hasn’t been easy this year to provide for all 7 children”
“Thanks for all the food, now we will have a Christmas”
“I have never received new cloth in my entire life, Thank you”
“Thank you for the new book and journal, now I can practice my English”

With so many heart warming stories, generous donations, our site coordinators efforts, and great volunteers; we are so grateful for the chance to grant wishes that truly impact the lives of those in need in our community and are already looking forward to next years Winter Wish Program.
