First Responders Day

First Responders Day is a state-wide initiative to honor those who are the first to respond to emergencies.  First Responders include people like police and firefighters, but as the National First Responders Organization points out, “a First Responder is any individual who runs toward an event rather than away” (their more comprehensive list can be found here).

Here at Communities In Schools of Tacoma, we believe in recognizing the people on our community who make a difference (we also acknowledge that means recognizing everyone).

Every year, each of our school sites adopts a fire or police station nearby.  The students make thank you cards, and then deliver them–along with cookies and coffee, donated by local businesses–to their adopted station.
