Merci was initially referred to the program in need of help with her math classes, but we quickly discovered that math was only a small fraction of the services that could benefit Merci and her family. Upon connecting with Merci’s mother, we were informed that her family was struggling to find stable housing and our team went to work in search of local agencies and partners that could be of support.

During this time, Merci shared her dream of building a tiny home to help other folks facing housing crisis issues and through much conversation, the Tiny Home Club was created. Merci served as the club president, helping to teach students carpentry and advocacy skills.

Merci’s connection with CIS helped her to reach her goals. She graduated with the Class of 2019 and will be joining the carpenter’s union. Her goal is to pursue a career in building tiny homes to help families in need. We are so proud of the young woman and leader Merci has become!
