Our CIS H.I.R.E. (Helping Interns Reach Excellence) launched last summer. Four Mount Tahoma high school students were chosen to participate in a month-long internship opportunity that gave them exposure to the construction trade, serving with Rebuilding Together. Students collectively spent over 700 hours working on demolition projects, building, remodeling, and even served in the office answering phones and performing clerical tasks. Students were recognized by the Tacoma School District during October’s Tacoma School Board meeting. They each received a $2500 scholarship sponsored by MC Construction to help assist them with college and career expenses.
The CIS H.I.R.E. program allows high school students the opportunity to gain exposure to career fields and provides them with skills to help build their portfolios. Through this experience, young people gain knowledge and confidence in their abilities and they learn about the many hats workers wear on the job. Because of this opportunity, students are able to determine what they like and dislike about certain careers, which helps to fuel their ambitions.
